a Sudbury story

Although I only met your mother a few times, she was part of my extended Plaunt family from Sudbury, and a very close friend of my aunt Jean Plaunt. She was also the flower girl my mother`s wedding and was close enough to our family that she wrote a beautiful note to me after my mother`s death. In addition, I remembered meeting her at a Ridley Old Boy weekend with Jack when I was a student there in the late 50`s. However, the main reason I`m sending this note is that she is mentioned in my biography on my uncle, Donald Plaunt, who was a Lancaster pilot in WW II. Soon after my uncle`s death had been announced in May of 1943, Sheila met my grandfather by chance in the Laura Second shop in downtown Sudbury. They chatted for a while and then my grandfather left to talk to the clerk. Later, after telling Jean that she had seen her father in the store, Jean told her the reason he was there that day. My grandfather had been sending Donald a box of his favourite treat, his `Lauras,`as he called them. Later, the clerk told my aunt it was the saddest day of her life, when instead of paying for the latest box of Lauras, he was there to canel the monthly order.
