Obituary for Margaret Mary Miklos

Margaret Miklos (neé Belovari) passed away peacefully at home on August 17 at the age of 94. Marg is now reunited with her beloved husband of 72 years, Jim Miklos, who died in March 2019. Marg is also predeceased and was heartbroken by the death of her daughter, Maureen
Hodges in May 2021; as well as her grandson Ryan Miklos in February 2021.

Marg was the doting and loving matriarch of so many. She will never be forgotten by her children, Bob (Jeannie), Jim (Mary), Gerry (Sherri), Carole, Tom (Brenda), Peter, and son-in-law John Hodges. She was a cherished Nana to Chaundra, Laura, Tori, Jessa, Kat,
Annie, A.J., and Carly-Jordan; and she was adored by 15 great-grand-kids.

Marg was an active member of the Church she so loved, St. Pius X Catholic Church. Over the years, she had served as lector, on the C.W.L., and the Catholic 50 Club; along with volunteering many years at Meals on Wheels and St. Vincent de Paul.

Marg worked for 16 years at St. Joseph’s Hospital
on the switchboard; She loved her job there. She was a member of the Brantford Scrabble Club for many years and still played online scrabble until this past summer- she never lost her edge. She also always loved to play euchre. As she got older, she continued
to swim and do Aquafit at the Gretzky Centre multiple times a week to keep fit and healthy- right up into her 90s!

So many parents today can thank Marg for the work she did way back in the 1970s, advocating for her special-needs son during a time when it was expected to simply institutionalise and leave him without much help. Her son wasn’t diagnosed as nonverbal autistic
until his 30s, but she never gave up. After having him forced to live in several different institutions, Marg was able to get him into one of the very first group homes for adults in Brantford. She helped pave the way for future generations to have doctors
and specialists listen when a mother says she knows something is different about her child.

Later in life, when Marg stopped driving a car,
she took up driving her motorized scooter with her husband Jim all over the neighbourhood, as far as they could go. Marg continued to scooter by herself usually twice a day along the Gretzky trail even after Jim was gone. As long as she could until the end,
Marg wanted to scooter some every day- it gave her such a feeling of independence and joy.

The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thanks
to Marg’s nurses from Bayshore Health and Stedman Community Hospice Outreach Team. A very special thank-you to Sandy, Lyndsay, and Karla for your love and care.
