Obituary for Jean Patricia Grundy

Jean passed away peacefully at home in her 93rd year on July 9th, 2021 with her family at her side. She was reunited with her husband of near 60 years, Fred. She is deeply loved and cherished by her five daughters and their husbands; Suzanne (Kelly) Searles, Ann (Paul) Stuart, Catherine (Jim) Duffield, Mary (Garth) Brownscombe, and Joan Grundy. She is survived by eleven grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren whom she absolutely adored. She is also survived by her much beloved sister, Joan Simon as well as many nieces and nephews. Jean is also survived by friends and neighbours whom she treasured. Jean is predeceased by her parents Mary and Malcolm Wilson, and six siblings; Malcolm (Celia) Wilson, Marie (Cyril) Walters, Florence (Bob) Richardson, Walter (Nin) Wilson, Joseph (Louise) Wilson and Bernard Wilson. Jean was a true family matriarch. Family always came first. She delighted in and was especially proud of all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her family was inspired by her strength as she faithfully cared for her husband as he battled Alzheimer’s. She showed this same indomitable strength as she faced her own recent battle with melanoma. Jean’s faith was important to her, and she lived it out in humble and quiet ways, like the way she always tried to treat people, with kindness, respect, acceptance, and care. She believed in reaching out to help others as evidenced in her many years delivering Meals on Wheels, working for Heart and Stroke, the Red Cross donor clinics, and her past involvement with the CWL. Jean immediately endeared people to her with her kindness and sense of humour. Golf and playing bridge were two of her favourite pastimes. Her many vacations with her husband in Texas and Florida, were some of the best years of her life. She thoroughly enjoyed life and always encouraged her children to do the same, because as she would always remind us, life is short and is meant to be lived fully! Jean was an extremely talented seamstress and could also knit up a storm. Each year the five Grundy girls were always a sight at church on Easter morning, wearing the new outfits she had made especially for the occasion. Jean loved to watch sports. She was faithful to the end to her Maple Leafs and Blue Jays, no matter their standings. Watching golf was also a favoured pastime. Jean’s five daughters would like to thank all of Jean’s extended family, and friends, who enriched her life. The family would like to sincerely thank Dr. John Hadley for his over 30 years of care of Jean. They would also like to thank Nurse Gita and all of the amazing PSW’s who took such wonderful care of Jean, allowing them to fulfill her wish to die at home. Mom was a model of a life well lived, and we will always carry her in our hearts. Friends and family will be received at the TOLL FUNERAL HOME, 55 Charing Cross Street, Brantford on Sunday, July 11, 2021 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. Please RSVP for visitation by going to Jean’s page at www.tollfh.ca. Masks are mandatory and social distancing protocols will be in place. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 12, 2021 at 11:00 am at St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church, 9 Waverly Street, Brantford. Interment to follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Jean’s family would appreciate donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, or the Alzheimer Society of Brant.

Live your life to its fullest. And when you need me, just whisper my name…I will be there.
