Obituary for Kenneth Douglas Appleby

It is with profound sadness we announce that Kenneth Douglas Appleby, passed away peacefully in his 86th year, surrounded by loving family at the Brantford General Hospital on Sunday April 25th, 2021.

Loving husband and best friend for 56 years to Myrna Appleby (Wilson). An amazing father to Todd (Amy), Troy (Kory), and Tammy. An incredible Papa to Jessica O’Neill (Casey), Sarah, Jacklyn (Jake). An exceptional great-grandfather to Keaton and Beckham. Survived by his siblings in Sudbury, sister Joan Riles (Howard) and brother Wayne. Predeceased by his parents in Welland, Borden (1994) and Jessie (1995).

Kenneth was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia and proudly served in the Canadian Army, as a Master Corporal serving 23 years in various locations including St. John’s (Newfoundland), Camp Borden (Ontario), Soest (Germany), Hagersville (Ontario), Halifax (Nova Scotia), Petawawa (Ontario), and Egypt.

After his military duty, he continued a fulfilling career and membership with the Canadian Legion (Waterford, Dunsdon, South Brant), traveled internationally and enjoyed 17 winters in Florida with “the love of his life”.

Kenneth could light up a conversation in any room. His kindness, generosity, humour, love, and knowledge will never be forgotten. He will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by all who knew him. Thank you to the team at Brantford General Hospital for their support and compassionate care.

He was such an amazing Husband, Father, Papa, Veteran, Cook, Neighbour, Storyteller and Canadian Legion member.

A Funeral Service will be held with family only in attendance. A live stream of the Service can be viewed on the Toll Funeral Home website on Thursday, April 29, 2021 at 12 noon. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Brantford General Hospital, and Diabetes Canada.
