Passed away peacefully at the Brantford General Hospital on Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at the age of 95. Beloved wife of the late Anton Quint (2000). Much loved mother of Joseph and his wife Muriel and Kathy and her late husband Klaus Gruendel. Cherished Oma of Jennifer and her husband Steve Miller and Jeffery and his wife Melissa. Proud Great Oma of Nickalus, A.J. and Calleigh. Will be missed by her sisters Theresa Molachyk, Leni Hirschleber and brother Nick Seifert and wife Elizabeth. Predeceased by several brothers and sisters. Kathy was a volunteer for St. Joseph’s Auxiliary for 17 years. She loved her garden and always had beautiful flower beds. My mom always loved gardening, cooking and baking. I remember childhood outings to Niagara Falls with picnics, going to the beach, be it Turkey Point or Sauble Beach and she always made a picnic lunch of chicken or pork, potato salad, radishes and tomatoes. There was always something sweet after. There was always cakes and cookies for us and Christmas there was even more. During the summer we had fresh tomatoes and green onions, peas, beans, potatoes and more. We canned peaches and pears and plums. One time a gentleman was walking past our house and came up the drive because he could smell some fragrance and asked about it. Mom said it was from her "rock carnations" and proceed to dig up one and gave it to him so he could have it in his garden to enjoy the fragrance.
It was hard when she first came to Canada. She didn't speak the language, had two children to take care of, owed for the trip from Germany and no job for my father or her. But they managed and thru hard work and careful spending made a good life for themselves and us. Thank you mom. Love your daughter Kathy.

Many people will remember my Oma for her hearty delicious cooking, or her decadent baking (oh the U cookies, cinnamon buns, Klayfas Kuchen...) for her friendship, her beautiful gardens, her sharing of flowers, fruits and vegetables from those gardens, or her sharing of recipes or canned fruits and jams...many will remember her for being very organized and tidy...for being a hard worker, or for sharing her time for many years at St. Joseph’s Hospital Ladies’ Auxiliary.....but I’m betting not many will remember her as being a fun child’s playmate.
That’s how I remember her....she could make ANYTHING fun....picking strawberries, vacuuming, ironing while watching her “stories”, working in the garden, cooking, baking, even doing dishes.....she was truly a fun playmate!
After Opa would go to work, she and I would lie in bed and tell funny stories, talk about how much snoring Opa did or what animal the snoring sounded like the night before, and play the roll over game and she would FALL out of the bed when it was her turn...we would make beds and she would ask “what kind of pillows we make today?” And I would say “sausage pillows!” and we would spilt and roll the pillows to look like fancy sausages under the bedspread.....we would wait with baited breath to watch LoveBoat and Fantasy Island...we watched the first space shuttle take off together! We sang and danced, and hard as it will be for most to believe, she let our birds fly around loose in her house!
I know she was something to everyone here and to those watching virtually or from above: wife, mother, sister, friend, aunt, great aunt, sister in law, Oma or great Oma, but in case you didn’t see that side of her, trust me, that child was in there. That child was MY OMA.

Kathy Gruendel Posted at 10:49am

Thanks for sharing this side of Oma. I want to hear about the birds - was this a secret between you two.

Jennifer Posted at 05:25pm

No secret, when we had the budgies (Ginger and Whiskey) for some reason they and I were at Oma and Opa’s house, and Oma let them fly freely throughout the main floor! They were sitting on her kitchen curtains, and you know doing what birds do when they “sit” ! I was surprised all she did was laugh!
