It is with great sorrow we announce that William John Pettigrew passed away peacefully in his sleep while receiving hospital care in Hamilton, ON, on January 21, 2021 at age 87. John is survived by his loving wife of 54 years Eileen May (nee Clark); and his children, Sharon, Brenda (Rob), Bob, Debra (Jeff), Michael, and Douglas (Tina). He is predeceased by his brothers Victor and Paul. John was a devoted grandfather to 9 grandchildren: John, Rob, Chris, Shannon (CJ), Shawn, Stephanie (Evan), Nicholas, and Amanda. He is predeceased by his grandson Sandy. John was great-grandfather to Noah, JJ, and Edwin. John was born in a farmhouse in Neustadt on August 26, 1933 to Ismay and Jack Pettigrew. He spent 40 years working for the Canadian National Railway. He spent many happy summers at his family cottage in Sauble Beach. He never missed an occasion to gather and celebrate with family. John loved animals and had a lifelong passion for pigeon-keeping. He was a light-hearted, caring man who always had a story to share, and will be deeply missed by friends and loved ones. Rick and I and our family want you to know you are in our thoughts and prayers.
One of my first memories of John is shortly after we moved into the house next door. We had what appeared to be a rabbid muskrat in our woodshed and John came over to give suggestions on how to remove it. Rick and him stood there for a long time shovel in hand assessing the situation.

He took my children and my grandchildren into the pigeon pen see his pigeons.

He always was always willing to lend a hand or tell a story.

Such a great man.
