Obituary for Ronald Wayne Flaherty

Ron W. Flaherty was born April 15, 1956 to Nellie Unik and Ken Flaherty. The first few months of life he
struggled in hospital to survive. Months later his parents were able to bring him to their new home
where he grew along side his siblings Dennis, Cheryl and Gary. An adventurous spirit he spent many a
day outdoors enjoying Mohawk Park, playing hockey and baseball and forming life long friendships.

As a very young adult Ron was drawn to leave Brantford and travelled west to East Selkirk MB joining his
Grandmother Mary Unik in a small cabin with little amenities. He loved living there and became close
with extended family. There was always a special spot in his heart for Manitoba. Fortunately, he and
Donna would be able to make the trip back a couple of times to make more memories.

Ron worked for nearly 20 years at Domtar Roofing Materials and after recovery from a life changing
accident he started his own business. His passion for the outdoors began a successful property
maintenance business. Ron had a passion for landscaping and could turn terrible grass and weeds into
a beautiful lawn. His clients were his friends with whom he shared wonderful conversations. Working
the grounds he was in his domain, he truly loved it.. Ron believed that every home should have more
gardens especially one of vegetables. He created beautiful gardens and a wildlife refuge in our own back
yard and enjoyed feeding and watching the birds, the rabbits and the squirrels. Ron loved the sparkle of
lights in his pine trees. Having little time to relax in the summer months Ron would enjoy golf, fishing,
bicycling and playing his music in the winter months. An empathetic man, a true Canadian, Ron was
quick to lend a helping hand up, devoting most of his adult life to caring for his aging parents and
improving lives of those around him.

Ron will be forever in the heart of his best friend and soulmate Donna Charters. Together they made
wonderful memories and life experiences. We thank all whom made his journey from this life easier on

as his beginning. As expressions of sympathy please consider a memorial donation to Stedman
Community Hospice or St. Joseph’s Foundation. Arrangements entrusted to Toll Funeral Home.
Following Ron’s wishes cremation and private Interment at Mount Hope Cemetery near his parents will
take place. “Eat the Ice cream, don’t put things off”.
