Obituary for Bernie Summers

Sadly during this Holiday Season, Bernie Summers passed away on December 26, 2020, at St Joseph’s Hospital Hamilton, with COPD complications at the age of 58. Bernie was a skilled tradesman, a Plasterer, who passionately devoted 15 years serving as an Organizer for the International Painters and Allied Trades
Union. Bernie successfully unionized over 70 non-union companies in Ontario and Eastern Canada. Many Canadian families benefitted, earning better wages, receiving benefits and pensions. Bernie’s passion for union organizing is an unparalleled legacy. Surviving family are his parents Douglas and Verna Letourneau, siblings; Arn Summers, Janet Proscanu, Joseph Letourneau, Sharon Summers and Wayne Letourneau. Loving
friend of Marlaine Clarke. Bernie was an avid golfer and shared many memories with his friends and family. The Brassie Pub in Ancaster Ontario was Bernie’s place to relax and enjoy his many friends with football picks, music and conversation. There will be many private celebrations in memory of Bernie across Canada with
friends and family. A special thank you goes to the hard working Registered Nurses at Brantford General Hospital, Hamilton General Hospital and St. Joseph’s Hospital, Hamilton. In keeping
with Bernie’s wishes, cremation has taken place.
