Obituary for Morris Chepil

Passed away peacefully, with his daughter at his side, at the Brantford General Hospital on Sunday, December 6, 2020, at the age of 95. Predeceased by his beloved wife of 57 years, Evelyn Isabel (nee Crealock) in 2007. Loving and much loved Dad of Marilyn and her husband Nigel Blamire. Proud Grandpa of Megan and her husband Brendan Smithyman and Emily and adoring Great-Grandpa of Max. Godfather to Sara and Jamie Bannister. Predeceased by his parents and 12 older siblings, he was the last living member of his generation, and had dozens of nieces, nephews and extended family on both the Chepil and Crealock sides, by whom he was adored and will be dearly missed. Morris will also be fondly remembered and dearly missed by many friends, here in Brantford, and across the prairies and northwestern Ontario where he was born and made his home until he retired. Morris loved being outdoors. He enjoyed golfing, especially with his buddies Tommy, Andy and Walter, and loved his garden (his lawn was the envy of everyone – he didn’t allow weeds). He liked to bowl, and participated happily in church and community events. He loved to travel, across our country and to many places in the US, especially Arizona and Hawaii; both to visit friends and family and to see new places. He cherished time spent with family and friends most. He delighted in his granddaughters, and especially enjoyed when they came to stay in Brantford. He took them bowling, fishing, mini-putt golfing, and went on innumerable drives in the country to find cows, horses, and silos! He was always an involved Dad, and in later years, he spent many hours reminiscing with his daughter and listening to her play the piano. In recent years, he was so proud of his little great-grandson, and loved to show him off at Tranquility. Originally from the Portage la Prairie area, he enjoyed visits back there throughout his life, and attended many family events, up to and including the latest Chepil reunion at Edwin in 2017. Morris proudly served in the Royal Canadian Navy Volunteer Reserve during World War 2. He was a gentle man and a gentleman. He was kind hearted to a fault, and expected nothing in return. He loved us all, and he is finally reunited with his beloved Evelyn, who he loved best of all. Rest in peace, Dad, you have earned it. The family would like to thank the doctors and staff of Brantford General Hospital ER, 4th and 8th floors and the Palliative unit, for their compassion and gentle care of Dad and all of us, especially during these difficult pandemic times. And our thanks to the staff at Tranquility Place for their loving care over the past three years. A private service will be held followed by interment at Mount Hope Cemetery. Donations in memory of Morris can be made to Stedman Community Hospice, his charity of choice for the wonderful care they provided to his beloved Evelyn and to him when she died.
