Obituary

It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Barry Alexander Dixon, in his 63rd year, after a courageous battle with cancer, at the Brantford General Hospital, on October 5, 2020. Born on November 1, 1957 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Beloved husband of Cathy for over 35 years. Much loved father of Kaytlyn and Christopher (Bozana). Cherished brother of Cheryl Hunt (Greg) and Tim. Predeceased by parents George and Caroline, and brothers Jim, George “Bo”, and Tery. Also survived by Carole and Charles Schulties, Grant and Elaine Hunchuk, Jim Hunchuk (Nikki), Dean and Jen Hunchuk, Chera Hunchuk (Scott), and Joyce Dixon. Sadly missed by nieces and nephews Robin, Tara, Chris, Ashley, Lauren, Kim, Sean, Tim, Mike, Laura, Joel, Amanda, Brendan, Tayler, Candace, John, Jason, Elenah, Zoe, Elliot, and Rosa and their families. Also lovingly remembered by Vinka and Vojin Petrovic, Joyce and Lance Lidster, Debby Defleming, and Michelle Baroni. Most important to Barry was always his family. He had a special love for his cats Beatrice, Cordelia, and Gretchen. He also had a passionate interest in cars and everything automotive. While his family was living in the Queen Charlotte Islands, his love of cars began. When he then moved to Chilliwack, he started taking automotive classes. His passion led him to working in the automotive industry for his whole career. Friends will be received at the TOLL FUNERAL HOME, 55 Charing Cross Street, Brantford on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 from 6pm to 8pm. Please be advised that masks or face coverings are mandatory and social distancing protocols will be in place. Private service to follow on Wednesday, October 14, 2020. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Brant Community Healthcare System Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated. Dear Cathy and family....The service for Barry was first rate...He would definitely have given it a "thumbs up" !
I first met Barry when he was selling Tridon wiper blades and I was responsible for this product line at
Ford Motor Company....From that meeting forward, Barry and I bonded like brothers...Over the years, we would attend NASCAR races, tour whiskey factories, golf a ton, buy and sell collector cars for awhile, attend automotive flea markets, fishing events on Lake Erie, Brantford karaoke nights, bbq's of course, Nashville tours, wine making adventures and the "Ship High In Transit" vending experiences in Barrie to name a few....And from our initial meeting, this led to a friendship of both our families...
We will forever miss you Barry....David & Donna Hyslop

Thank you. You two did have a lot of fun times, as well as our family visits over the years. It was a long and interesting friendship between you, with a lot of laughs for all of us along the way. We have so many good memories from our years together. Wow! The stories we could tell if we got started! It was really good to see you yesterday. Cathy, Kayte and Chris

MEMORIES OF BARRY

I feel very blessed to have had Barry as a nephew! He was a devoted and loving husband to my niece, Cathy. He was also a doting and loving father to Katye and Christopher. Barry had an awesome sense of humour which he used to make those around him feel comfortable and make them smile! Those who met him soon became his friends. He treated his family and friends alike with caring and love. His dedicated emloyees were treated like family!

Barry was also an awesome tour guide! I shall never forget a week long trip to Las Vegas where Cathy and Barry were our hosts: They treated us like royalty! The walking tour of the strip was fantastic! Highlights were: the pirate fight in front of Treasure Island where we were staying, dancing light show at the Bellagio , a supper at Wolfgang Puck's famous restaurant and watching the gondolas at the Venice. Loved Madame Tussaude's wax museum! Hallowe'en night in costume on Fremont Street is unforgettable!

Not only did Barry and Cathy show us the strip, but they also rented a big van and took Carole and I and 2 of their dedicated employees on tours of the surrounding areas. Highlights were: An authentic Mexican supper in a restaurant frequented by the local Mexican- born people, the Painted Desert, and the Hoover Dam.

Thank you for the memories, Barry! I will never forget you! I will always smile when I think of you! Love is eternal!

Cathy and family - we are very sorry to hear this news. Our sincere condolences to the entire family.

It is quite possible I owe any semblance of my automotive career to Barry. I was a young turkey who knew nothing from anything and stumbled into a great opportunity with Tridon and the great team that Larry Lawlor, Matt O'Brien were building. It was Barry's job to knock some sense, industry education and reliability into me. I was slow learner, but he was a patient/good teacher and I'm forever grateful for the time we spent together. I must have tired him out, as he soon after went Toronto / National Accounts and did awesome. I was always impressed with his preparation for key moments. I do have a funny memory (mostly for him - he laughed every time I reminded him of this) where after a trade show in Wpg the next morning I had a flight, pretty early. The night before we'd been "celebrating a great show".....and he thought to take the curviest roads, and hardest turns on the way to the airport. I couldn't get out of the car fast enough at the airport, he'd gotten me green as a pickle.......great guy...all the best to you Cathy and family.... Kindest regards, Gerald and Trish Kottke

I think he had quite a few funny memories of your time you spent together. I remember him telling tales where he would just be laughing so hard he could barely get through the story. You were a funny guy! I have one particular story in mind right now, and smiled just reading your comments here. Thank you for your comments. They've brought back memories from so many years ago. You guys certainly had some fun times, going all the way back to when Kaytlyn and Chris were young. It's been a long friendship. We were lucky to have seen you and Susan not that long ago. We had such a nice visit that day. Barry really enjoyed it and commented on that more than a few times afterwards. Thanks for your telephone conversation the other day. It was unintended I know, but it turned out well and it was nice to hear your voice. Cathy, Kaytlyn and Chris
