Obituary for William "Bill" Vandertuin

VANDERTUIN, William
Passed away peacefully July 30, 2020 in his 92nd year after a full and active life. “Bill” was born in Friesland, the Netherlands on June 13, 1929. After serving in the Dutch army Bill immigrated, along with his parents and younger siblings, to settle in the Brantford area. He was a proud Canadian. He leaves behind his true love, Frances (nee DeBruijn) and his cherished daughters and their partners, Elizabeth, Teresa and Yvon-Paul, Lynda, Sandra and Bruce. He was most proud of his grandchildren Julia, Evan, Amanda, Kyle and Carter. Bill was our patriarch and enjoyed every moment he shared with his large, extended family and circles of friends, always giving of his time and support. He took joy in pursuing new interests and encouraged us to follow our dreams. He was an active member and volunteer of numerous organizations, and was particularly committed to the Dutch-Canadian Legion. Bill and Frances enjoyed over 65 wonderful years of marriage and were blessed with good health, loving memories, and much laughter. They were able to travel and see the world. He will be missed and always close to our hearts. The family extends their thanks to Dr. Maria DeLeon-Matsuda, Dr. Kim, Dr. Lam, and the entire health care team. Visitation will be held at the TOLL FUNERAL HOME, 55 Charing Cross Street, Brantford on Friday, August 7, 2020 from 5pm to 7pm. Please be advised that masks or face coverings are mandatory and social distancing protocols will be in place. A private service will be held. If you wish, donations can be made to the Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre in Hamilton. Online condolences may be left at www.tollfh.ca
