On Sunday, July 19, 2020, Charles C. Johnson of Brantford, loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather, passed away at age 74. Charles was preceded in death by his wife Anne (nee Tipton). He is survived by his two daughters, Kate and Amy, and son-in-law Michael. Charles, or “Bumpa” as he was known in his later years, will be affectionately remembered by his granddaughters Maggie and Natalie. Charles met Anne, the love of his life, in July 1967 and married her in 1968. Dedicated to her, he stayed by her side through thick and thin for 47 years until her death in 2015. Charles was an avid golfer, never happier than when he was on the course with Anne. He also enjoyed fishing with old buddies from school, walks by the river, a glass or three of red wine, and BBQ steak (even in winter). In the late 1960s, Charles started working in finance and spent more than 30 years working for TD Canada Trust in Brantford, Dunnville, Grimsby, and Dundas. During those years he made an impression on many who will remember him for his loyalty to his staff, and also as a mentor, a leader, and a friend. Charles also dedicated many volunteer hours over his lifetime as a member of Lions Club International and as a long-standing board member of the Samuel W. Stedman Foundation in Brantford. Charlie was known for his sense of humour and as a man of many words - he had a story or an analogy for almost every situation and occasion. A man of true integrity, he will also be remembered for his honesty, sense of fairness, and kindness. He will be greatly missed. A celebration of life service will be planned at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to Parkinson Canada, the Grand River Conservation Authority Honorary Tree Program, or Soup For the Soul through St. Andrew’s United Church in Brantford are all welcome.
“May your glass always be full.
May the roof over your head always be strong.
And may you be in heaven half an hour before the devil knows you’re dead.”
