Obituary for George Campbell

CAMPBELL, George Alexander
With great sadness we said goodbye to George Alexander Campbell who passed peacefully at the Brantford General Hospital on Sunday June 28, 2020, in his 93rd year. Predeceased by his beloved wife Jean in 2019 and his eldest daughter Lynne in 2000. Loving father of Bill (Catherine) and Maureen. Loved and cherished by grandchildren Jeff, Jonathan (Lori), Jennifer, Christopher, Jordan, Ben, Maddie and great-grandfather of Weston and Hadley. George grew up on the family farm and entered into the family dairy business full time in 1947 after graduating from school. Together with his brother Don, they purchased all the shares from their father John in the early 1960’s and the business name was changed to Brant Dairy Co. Ltd. George continued managing the dairy as president and it grew and flourished until being sold in 1995. George’s achievements and accomplishments in the Brantford area have been many and he has been recognized for the numerous contributions that he has made to this community, in particular to the Brantford General Hospital. He gave years of commitment to the Brant Community Healthcare System as a long time member of the Brantford General Hospital’s Board of Governors, raising millions for the Foundation. He was also recognized for his achievements by the St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation and was presented with the Dr. J.A.D. Marquis Award. George served on the Board of Governors at McMaster University. He was also an original founder of the Boys and Girls Club of Brantford and has had a seat on their board since its inception. As a longtime standing member and past president of the Rotary Club, George had researched and visited numerous Boys and Girls Clubs around the province before plans were put in motion to open the club in Brantford. He was a former Director of the Brantford Regional Chamber of Commerce as well as past President of the Brantford Jaycees and a past President of the Brant Curling Club, where he curled for over 65 years. George was also recognized as an official ambassador for the City of Brantford’s Economic Development Department. He was an avid sportsman, playing basketball, baseball, football and golf. George coached minor league baseball and hockey for many years and went on to referee University football. George has been a tireless volunteer continuing his entire life to give to the community through his ongoing involvement and selfless attitude. Many thanks and much appreciation to the very compassionate Nurses and staff in Palliative Care as well as Dr. Lucie Gregoire and Dr. Jeff Manning and the Brantford General Hospital. As per George’s wishes, cremation will take place and with the current restrictions there will be no visitation or service. If desired, donations can be made to the Boys and Girls Club of Brantford or to the Brantford General Hospital Foundation.
