On June 15th, 2020, Reginald Gerald Stanley Rollings passed away peacefully in his 89th year, while holding his daughter’s hand in Palliative Care. He fought a brave and courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years Valerie, his loving children Anne (Doug Reeves), Nick (Lynn), and John and grandchildren Sabrina and Jérémy. He is predeceased by his parents Gerald and Gertrude Rollings, and siblings Trevor and Geraldine. He will be fondly remembered by his sister-in-law Patricia from England, sister-in-law Wilma from Australia and nephews Paul, Brett and Darren and their families in Australia. Special thanks to the Juravinski Cancer Centre; LHIN, and Bayshore services in providing daily at home nursing and PSW care; the BGH Palliative Care C7 staff (especially Dr. Legere, Gina, Mary, Stephanie, Kaitlynn and Monica) and to Barry for his spiritual support.
Reg was a kind, caring and gentle man. He loved working on cars, was a generous and friendly neighbour and a friend to many, and he enjoyed spending hours in his machine shop at home. We have fond memories of our Dad enjoying camping and cottage trips with the family, Dad fishing in his homemade red punt boat, and designing and machining model trains. He enjoyed his trips visiting family in Australia, and wearing his Australian hats. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church, 9 Waverly Street, Brantford on Tuesday, June 23, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Paris. Please be advised that masks or face coverings are mandatory and social distancing protocols will be in place. If desired, donations in memory of Reginald can be made to the charity of your choice.

It is 10am June 23rd, 2020 and is with a heavy heart I remember going to the Rollings house, to the back door countless days, waiting for Anne to get ready for some meagre plans we have made. I remember Anne's room, the boy's room, the parent's room where Mr. Rollings was sleeping in the daytime due to working shift hours, that he didn't seem to like very much. The dark rec room with the bright orange fireplace, lots of machine parts in the basement, the living room facing Wiltshire, and the kitchen/dining room often had creations in progress. The English garden with the striped canvas chairs with individual canopies, fruit trees and gardens. Mr. Rollings was a light spirit, caring and kind and said funny things. I was included on car trips sometimes, with all the kids and I and a dog in the packed in the back seat of a Datsun. Mr. Rollings would reminisce about glimpses of exotic lands, and I always had the feeling he wasn't quite settled here. He is on the trip of a lifetime now. This "Covid" time is a strange time to live, and must be a strange time to depart, but quite a natural time to ride his wave away out to sea.

Reg and I attended the monthly breakfasts held by retirees and former employees of the old Toronto Hamilton and Buffalo Railway, and I really enjoyed those drives back ad forth. He would always remark about the traffic on the 403 ad said if there was a problem, one would be completely "oracalized". He did indeed love his live steam locomotives which he displayed one time at Westfield Heritage Village. He will no doubt meet up again with his good friend Mike Schwedyk. Rest in peace my friend.

I have treasured memories of Mr. Rollings as a kind and generous man who was truly interested in lives of other people. The smile in the picture of him shows his warmhearted spirit. My thoughts are with you Anne and your family.
