Mrs. Leokadia Lojko

Brantford, ON N3T 1C6

Dear Leokadia,
Dear Bereaved Family of Paweł,

It was with great pain and sadness that I learned of the passing of our colleague Paweł. This is an enormous loss not only for SPK Branch No. 4 but also for our entire Association.

Paweł, a soldier of the 2nd Independent Armored Brigade of General Władysław Anders’ famed II. Polish Corps, was awarded many military medals and civil decorations, including the Polish Army Medal, Bronze Cross of Merit with Swords, Silver Cross of Merit, Commemorative Cross of Monte Cassino, Cross of Combat Action of the Polish Armed Forces in the West with bars for Monte Cassino, Ancona and Bologna; British 1939-1945 Star and Italy Star; Pro Memoria Medal; Silver Medal of the National Treasure of the Republic of Poland; Siberian Exile Cross; Bronze, Silver and Gold Cross of SPK in Canada; Silver and Gold Medal and Veteran's Cross of the SPK World Federation.

Paweł was born in Tartaku, Poland. With the outbreak of war, as a 13-year-old boy, he was deported to the far north of Siberia. He survived captivity and the Soviet gulags. Following amnesty, he reached Palestine and joined the Polish II Corps. A hero of the battles for Monte Cassino and the Italian Campaign. Co-founder, 18-time President and Honorary Member of Branch No. 4 SPK in Brantford. Since 2011, an Honorary Member of SPK in Canada. Paweł was completely devoted to working for the good of our Association and independent Poland.

I have fond memories of our meetings at SPK General Conventions and at commemorations and celebrations in Brantford, e.g. dedication the Polish War Veterans Memorial in Tom Thumb Park and blessing the new Branch Colours. I always considered Paweł to be a living history and a constant reminder of what binds our Association.

With his passing, Polonia has lost an eminent volunteer, a wonderful man and a real gentleman whom we will always admire as a true example of patriotism.

Departing to his "last post", he leaves behind a beloved family and dear friends with whom we unite in this time of sorrow.

On behalf of myself, the Head Executive Board, National Council and all members of the SPK in Canada, I extend our deepest sympathy on the death of our dear friend Paweɫ, and attest the highest respect and recognition of his work for the good of SPK Branch No. 4, our Association, Canada and our fatherland.

I deeply regret that I cannot personally bid farewell to my Paweł, but please believe me that I am with you in spirit.
Honour his memory!

Koleżanka Leokadia Lojko
51 Graham Avenue
Brantford, ON N3T 1C6

Droga Koleżanko Leokadio,
Pogrążona w smutku Rodzino Kolegi Pawła,

Z wielkim bólem i żalem przyjąłem wiadomość o śmierci naszego przyjaciela Pawła.

Korpusu gen. Władysława Andersa, był wyróżniony wieloma medalami wojskowymi i odznaczeniami cywilnymi, m.in. Medalem Wojska Polskiego, Brązowym Krzyżem Zasługi z Mieczami, Srebrnym Krzyżem Zasługi, Krzyżem Pamiątkowym Monte Cassino, Krzyżem Czynu Bojowego Polskich Sił Zbrojnych na Zachodzie z okuciem Monte Cassino, Ankona i Bolonia; Brytyjskim Star 1939-1945 i Italy Star; Medalem Pro Memoria; Srebrnym Medalem Skarbu Narodowego R.P.; Krzyżem Zesłańców Sybiru; Brązowym, Srebrnym i Złotym Krzyżem SPK w Kanadzie; Srebrną i Złotą Odznaką oraz Krzyżem Kombatanckim Federacji Światowej SPK.

Przeżył niewolę i łagry sowieckie. Po amnestii dotarł do Palestyny i wstąpił do II Korpusu. Bohater walk o Monte Cassino i Kampanii Włoskiej.

Z Jego odejściem, Polonia straciła wybitnego społecznika, wspaniałego człowieka i prawdziwego dżentelmena, z którego będziemy zawsze brali przykład.

Andrzej Ruta
