Adored and precious husband of Barbara Elliott. Passed peacefully into God’s hands, March 23, 2020. Albert was a man of faith who reported to God every morning: “Albert Elliott, reporting for duty, Sir,” he would say. “How can I serve today?” Albert’s journey from his birth on August 15, 1931, to his joining those who predeceased him was a great life lived; a life that touched many souls. He shared a love story with his wife Barb that transcends time and space. His last words to her were, not surprisingly, “I love you.” Together, Albert and Barb raised their youngest daughter, Nancy, and brought together all their children to form “their family.” A family of love. Albert raised four children with his first wife, Mary Hebert. He talked daily about those children: Mary Lynn Elliott (Sally Boyle); Karen Elliott (predeceased); Greg Elliott (Grace Elliott); Allan Elliott (predeceased)-(Theresa). Albert loved sharing stories about their childhoods and was so grateful for the relationships he had with them as adults. His pride in who they are was undeniable. It was such a blessing that his son Greg got to hold his hand as Albert passed into the light. Albert’s children with Barb; Kathy English,(Gregg Serles); Barry English (Hazel English); Eddy English (Jan Klimek); Nancy English, (John Vandyk) were blessed by this good man who taught them many life lessons when he came into their lives. Albert taught us acceptance of people, he taught us forgiveness and to make amends if you hurt someone. He taught us to live one day at a time, to have faith and look at things in a positive light. He enjoyed so many moments with all of us. Whether it was a home opener to his beloved Blue Jays’ games with Barry or sharing Brantford City Hall stories with Hazel that brought back happy memories of his work in municipal government. He loved reading Kathy’s column in the Toronto Star and was her biggest fan. He admired Gregg much and loved to hear about his many journeys around the world. Albert’s time with Eddy, who affectionately called him “Bert”, was undeniably some of his favourite time spent, whether it was sharing a meal, a joke, watching a game or just kibitzing. He and Barb drove out west to see Eddy and Jan several times and he was so happy for their renewed happiness. He loved his jokes with John and always knew time with him would put a smile on his face. Nancy was so blessed to be raised by Albert. There was nothing he would not do for her. He spent several years being the dance dad in Barb and Nancy’s dance studio where he touched many families’ lives with his patient goodness. Albert was adored by his many grandchildren. Whether teaching them how to use tools to build things or listening to the stories of their lives as they grew up, each grandchild held a place in his heart. After a visit with any one of them, he would say, “I just love that kid so much.” He is remembered in love by these grandchildren: Jackie, Jennifer, Aaron (Cindy); Chelsea, (Tom) ; Danielle, Brandan, Baby Maryjane, Geoff ( Skye); Sam (Danielle); Dave (Janine); Carli (Will); Mandy (Brandan); Bree, Jordan, Shaun, Brandan, Kendra, Paula, Rebecca and his youngest, Nik, who had the privilege of spending every weekend with him and affectionately called him “fat butt.“ He was blessed also with great grandchildren: TJ, Mary Jane, Victoria, Aaron, Conner, Emma, TJ, Hayden, Julia, Mia, Livy, Luna and Echo. Albert was born into a family of faith. His parents, Ruth and Reverend Albert Elliott, are no doubt walking him home to God. Albert loved growing up with so many siblings. He often spoke of happy times with his sisters and brothers, Grace Irvine (deceased), (Doug Irvine); Marilyn Wilson, (Clayton Wilson-deceased); Beverly Willan (deceased), (Don Willan- deceased); Donald Elliott, (Shirley Elliott); Lois White, (Lorne White). Albert also leaves behind many nieces and nephews as well as close friends, including Jimmy Rowe; Marilyn Campbell and Jan and Ed English Sr. Albert also leaves behind his furry friends ”Shaggy, Mitzi and Bitzi.” The names of all of those here hold dear their own stories and moments with Albert. He was a man of wisdom who had many parables and advice, always given without preaching. He had a way of making you come to the right answer yourself. A registered industrial accountant, Albert was an active member of AA for 38 years, mentoring and sponsoring many people through the program. All of us privileged to be his “family” are forever affected by Albert Elliott and his forever love. Albert walked beside all of us during difficult days and we know his spirit walks with us during these challenging times. It is his wisdom that gets us through this terrible time when we are grieving but cannot hold each other. He taught us we must let go and let God. Due to this Covid-19 crisis and the family being in isolation, arrangements to celebrate Albert are postponed to a later date.
