Obituary for John Feely

It is with great sadness that the family announces the sudden passing of John Lewis Feely in Brantford on February 28, 2020, in his 86th year. John was born in Brantford to Lewis and Ada (Misner) Feely and is survived by his high school sweetheart, loving wife of 60 years and BCI student's council rival Arlene Coombes. John was a devoted father to Paul and Kim (Britton), Dave (Lou) and Tracey (Thomson), Steve and Elaine (Conroy) and Patrick and Denise (Amo). "Papa John" (Grandpa) doted over his six grandchildren; Michael, Pat Jr., Em, Hannah, Kirsty and Macey. He will be greatly missed by Sisters-In-Law Marilyn Gifford, Debbie Main, many nieces and nephews. John worked briefly for Canadian Foresters in Brantford, then spent more than two decades in senior positions at Revenue Canada in Hamilton. Gregarious and big-hearted by nature, John could often be found mentoring a younger colleague, hosting large parties at his summer cottages at Turkey Point and Sherkston Shores – John was definitely the life of the party, signing cheques for one of Arlene's many charitable causes, flooding the neighborhood hockey rink or rounding up some neighborhood kids for a Saturday afternoon airplane ride over Brantford. John loved to swim, fish and boat while at the cottage, and he was talented in many sports including hockey, football, baseball and golf. John was also a notable storyteller; he never had a shortage of great, and somewhat exaggerated, stories to tell. He loved to travel with his friends and family, he loved to see people being happy and having fun - his heart was as big as he was. Most importantly, John always placed family first; they were his top priority and if you weren't part of the family, John would do anything to make you feel like you were. This ability to widen the family circle, to make room for, and to include others within that circle was one of John's greatest characteristics, along with his extreme generosity. We love you, we miss you, you will be remembered, always...

It was John's wish to be cremated, he will rest alongside his parents in Farringdon Burial Ground in Brantford. In lieu of flowers, please send condolences to www.tollfh.ca
