Obituary for James Smith

SMITH, James Lewis
With profound sadness, the family announces the passing of their beloved, Dad, Grandad, and Great-grandad, Jim, on Sunday January 19, 2020 in his 97th year. Jim was born in Eastbourne, Sussex, England. He was a fiercely competitive footballer, playing for Eastbourne Town Football Club. He joined the RAF during WW2 and was sent to Hamilton, Ontario to train on a Lancaster. As a navigator he flew many successful missions over Europe. During that time, he met the love of his life the late Connie (2016). In 1957, along with a young family Jim returned to Canada to start a new life. Jim and Connie enjoyed many happy, healthy, adventurous years, as members of Northridge Golf Club, travelling with friends, and in retirement, as snowbirds, spending time in their home in Florida.  Many wonderful memories were made with their dear friends Doris and the late George Usher. Jim leaves behind, his dearly loved sister, Doreen Thomas, his daughter Lesley Moore (the late Doug), his son Christopher (Vicki) Grandchildren Lora Grant (Jeff), Jennifer Kinneman (Jon), Andrew Smith (Shelley) and Great-grandchildren Sam, Jackson, Piper and Phoebe. Jim will also be missed by his caregiver, Pat Moore, who so lovingly cared for him. Many thanks to his Village Tower friends for their love and support. The family would like to acknowledge the dedicated   staff of Magnolia Drive, St Joseph’s Lifecare for the attention and care given to our Dad. In keeping with Jim’s wishes, there will be no service or visitation. Cremation has taken place. Jim will be interred beside Connie at Mount Hope Columbarium. Arrangements entrusted to TOLL FUNERAL HOME. www.tollfh.ca
