Obituary for Donald "Red" Johnson

Peacefully on March 30, 2019 in his 86th year, Don was freed from the suffering of Alzheimer’s. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Esther, and his children Joe (Katie), Frank (Joanne), and Fred (Crystal). Don is also survived by his sister, Edith and is predeceased by his mother Edith and brothers Bill and Ken. Don will be sadly missed by grandchildren Amy, Megan (Nick), Danielle, Jason, Chris and Tara and great grandchildren Mackenzie, Payton, Felicity and Cole. Following his retirement as an officer at the Brantford Jail, Don went on to volunteer at various retirement facilities in Brantford. Through his music and guitar playing Don enjoyed spending his free time entertaining the many residents and staff at each of these retirement homes. Our family would like to thank the staff at Brierwood Gardens for their outstanding care. We will never forget their kindness and help in making a difficult time easier to bear. Per Don’s wishes a cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held at a later date (to be announced). Arrangements have been entrusted to TOLL FUNERAL HOME, 55 Charing Cross Street, Brantford 519-753-8655. In lieu of flowers memorial donations to the Alzheimer’s Society of Brant or a charity of choice would be appreciated.
