Obituary for Bill Gaskell

With infinite sadness and the heaviest of hearts, the family of William (Bill) Gaskell announce his passing on Friday, February 1, 2019. Bill passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family at the Stedman Community Hospice in Brantford. Bill was 69 years old. Beloved husband to Margaret (Mag), loving father to Todd (Karen) and step-dad to Mike. Proud Pop of Gabriel, Karlyn, Gregory, John and Kaity. Loving son to Dorothy (Dot) and big brother to Marg (Claude), Robbie (Danielle), Debbie (Jim), Brian (Louise), Don (Kim) and Tammy (Alessandro). Predeceased by his father William (Old Bill), his sister Cathy (Lloyd) and his brothers Rick, Allan and Denis. Bill was a favourite uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was born in Windsor, Ontario but grew up in the Port Colborne/Welland areas. Bill worked on a gas rig on Lake Ontario (Miss Libby) but also owned and operated Rose City Reconditioning in Welland. In his retired years, Bill proudly volunteered as a Breathing Buddy helping many people cope with C.O.P.D. in The Firestone Clinic at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Hamilton. On Sunday afternoons, Bill looked forward to watching NASCAR with his son Todd. Any person lucky enough to meet Bill gained a friend. His jovial personality and sense of humour drew people towards him. At Bill’s request, a cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion in Welland (383 Morningstar Ave.) on Sunday, February 10 from 1:00 – 4:00. As Bill would say, “Come as you are.” Our family would like to send our deepest thanks to the amazing staff at the Stedman Community Hospice in Brantford, Dr. Bernadette McNeil, Nurse Shelley and all the PSWs that supported and cared for Bill. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Stedman Community Hospice or Autism Speaks Canada would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to TOLL FUNERAL HOME.
