Surrounded by the love of his family, Ken Porteous passed away at the Brantford General Hospital on Wednesday January 2, 2019. Beloved husband of Jean (nee Kersey) for 51 wonderful years. Adored father of Heather Shaw, and Lisa and her husband Paul Stephens. A most wonderful Papa to Brandon (Mariah), Emily (Matt), Ava, Emery, Macy and great grandfather to Gunner. Ken was the son of the late Ted and Helen Porteous and a cherished big brother to eleven siblings. The late Bill (Jan), Bob (Donna), the late Ann (Tom Hanson), Lynn (Brian Morden), Kathy Cooper, Susan (Paul Eacrett), Wendy (John Theis), Jim (Jill), Nancy (Brad Horning), Holly Elliott (Steve Schmitt), Ruth (John Esposito). He was much loved by many nieces and nephews and other extended family members and friends. Ken enjoyed 32 years of service on the Brantford Fire Department, ending his career as a Platoon Chief. His fellow firefighters were a second family to him. Ken was an avid golfer. He loved his weekly bowling league and card games, his daily walks along the Grand River and spending time with his family and friends. Friends will be received at the TOLL FUNERAL HOME, 55 Charing Cross Street, on Sunday January 6, 2019 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Service in the chapel on Monday January 7, 2019 at 1:30 p.m. Cremation to follow. Jean and family, our deepest sympathy to you for your loss. Ken was a great man, and I enjoyed working with him & Bill at McKeough Supply. He was the one who recommended trying Colin's garage for car repairs, 20 years ago, and I am grateful to him for that! He was always kind and had a gentle way about him. He will be missed. Sincerely Nina & Colin Cooper

Ken always had a smile, a lot of wit, and many funny comments. The Porteous home was always welcoming. He was a great guy and you picked a perfect picture. I have nothing but the fondest memories of "Sonny". Paul Hagen

Lisa, Paul and family, We were saddened to learn of Lisa's Dad's passing and send our deepest sympathies to her, Paul and all their family. Avery, Emery and Macy were blessed until now to enjoy the love of all four of their grandparents - something truly wonderful and special. May the fond memories of shared times together help you through this difficult time.
