Obituary for Sheilagh Verity

Sheilagh Verity
VERITY, Sheilagh.
July 8, 1926 - December 7, 2017

Passed away peacefully in her sleep at Charlotte Villa, Brantford, Ontario in her 92nd year. Predeceased by her beloved husband William John Heaven “Jack” Verity (March 17, 1923 -November 16, 1998). Loving mother of John Verity (Nancy), William “Bill” Verity (Katie) and Cathryn “Cathy” Bird (Richard). Proud grandmother of Maggie Verity, Spencer Verity, Jennifer Bird (Jeremy D'Mello), Hayleigh Bird (Neal Austin), Laura Bird (Connie Bird) and Jaimie Bird; and great- grandmother of James, Theo Jack, and Robert D’Mello, and Elliot Austin and Eric Bird. Survived by in laws, Lynn O’Reilly, and Kay and Roger Briggs, and many nieces and nephews. Also predeceased by her brothers Gordon O’Reilly and Jerry “Dennis” O’Reilly, her sister-in-laws Wali O’Reilly and Betty Muir, and brother-in-laws Eric Muir and David Verity. Born in Pembroke, Ontario to Gerald and Ray O’Reilly, Sheilagh spent most of her childhood in Sudbury and was a Northerner at heart. She enjoyed many summers cottaging on Keewaydin Island, Lake Muskoka, and later on at Rebecca Lake, Limberlost, Muskoka where her favourite time was not in the summer but rather, deep in the winter when the sun shines brightest. On September 11, 1948 Sheilagh married Jack in the Bishop Strachan School Chapel, Toronto. From then on Brantford became their home for the rest of their life. It seems fitting that as she leaves for a more heavenly place, as the snow slowly falls at Rebecca Lake, softly, big and fluffy and with much abundance! A real winter day in the north. The Verity Family extends its sincere gratitude to all the staff at Charlotte Villa for all the love, care and comfort they have given Mom in her final years. Private arrangements entrusted to DENNIS TOLL FUNERAL HOME, 55 Charing Cross Street, Brantford. Donations in memory of Sheilagh can be made to the Stedman Community Hospice or the Alzheimer Society of Ontario.
