Obituary for Shirley Isobel Wells

Shirley Isobel Wells
Peacefully, at the Stedman Community Hospice on July 12, 2018 in her 91st year. Loving wife to the late Dr. Franklin Wells. Wonderful mother and best friend to Bruce and Abby. Forever friend-in-law to Candace Wells. Dedicated and Inspirational grandmother to Briar (Andrew), Morgan (Alastair), Lauren (Matthew) and Caroline (Sterling). Special great-grandmother to Gregor, Rowan, Sawyer, William, Elliot and Hadley. Predeceased by parents Bruce and Amy Kerr and sister Carolyn Davies. Shirley lived always as a fun, independent force of nature. A lifetime spent gathering with generations of friends and family (and her fishing rod) at The Briers on Lake Erie cultivated her love of the outdoors. Early days as a counsellor at Glen Bernard Camp in Sunridge, Ontario, bird watching trips to Pelee Island, or most of all, paddling her cedar strip canoe at her treasured family cabin on North Tea Lake in Algonquin Park, Shirley was most happy outside. Her outdoor skills would make any camper blush. She was also a culinary genius, as any would say who had the pleasure of dining at her house for a meal. She was exceptional. She loved to travel with friends and family, recalling with laughter and a smile, her girls snorkeling trips to the Caribbean, and adventures (and misadventures) with Frank around the world. Her prolific collection of Christmas tree decorations is evidence of her many travels. After graduating Brantford Collegiate Institute, she attended the Ontario College of Art and Design. Throughout her life, she was an involved community organizer, volunteering her efforts with Sheridan Place, Brant Community Foundation, Health Council, and the Glenhyrst Art Gallery. Shirley’s generosity, humour, and love of life was contagious. She will be missed terribly. Many thanks to the extraordinary staff at the Stedman Community Hospice and Outreach Team, CBI visiting nurse Irina and Denise of the HNHB LHIN for helping make her transition so comfortable and peaceful. Arrangments entrusted to the Toll Funeral Home. Cremation has taken place. Family memorial to be held later this summer. Donations to Stedman Community Hospice, Brant Waterways Foundation, Bird Studies Canada appreciated.
