On Friday, March 16, 2018, surrounded by his family, Meertinus Cornelis (Dennis) DeVries awoke in glory. “Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.” (Colossians 3:2) Born July 1, 1931, to Arie and Berendina (Meijering) DeVries, in Katwijk, the Netherlands. Survived by his wife of 60 years, Klaske (Kay) DeVries (nee Brouwer). Loving father of Reina (Gord) Harrison, Alan (Theresa) DeVries, Bernice Wood, Geraldine (Albert) Flootman, and Henry (Joanne) DeVries. Beloved Opa of 21 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Loved brother of the late Dick DeVries and his wife Jackie, the late Hettie Boot and her husband John, the late Evelyn DeVries, George DeVries and his wife Diny, Harry and his wife Cisca, and Dien (Diane) Woudenberg and her husband Stef. Loved brother in law of the late Ted and Helen Brouwer, Jane and Ted Groenewegen, Phil and Teuni Brouwer, Elsie and John Boersma, Irene and Roger Konyndyk, and Gerda Brouwer. Also survived by many nephews and nieces. Visitation will be held at Grace Free Reformed Church, 17 Patterson Avenue, Brantford, on Monday, March 19, 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at Grace Free Reformed Church, Tuesday March 20, 2018 at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Word & Deed North America, or to Angioma Alliance Canada, in support of medical research for treatment of cavernous angiomas.
