Vincenzo Martino
Passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on January 31, 2018 at St. Joseph’s Life Care in his 97th year. Beloved husband of the late Antonina (2007). Loving father of Achille, Anna Hill (Jim), Maria McCann (Brian) and Jimmy. Proud papa of Jaime (Chrystal), Michael, Julie (Phil), Christine (Todd), Christopher, Alexandra and Andrea. Great-papa of his beautiful and cherished great-granddaughter Sloane. Predeceased by his siblings Donato and Carmellina, and his parents Anna and Achille. Vincenzo will also be missed by his siblings Michele, Antonio, Nardina and Lucietta, his sisters-in-law Luisa and Veronica, and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. While living in Italy, Vincenzo fought in the battle of WWII, following which he emigrated to Canada from Celle di San Vito, Foggia, Italy in 1951, looking for a better life for his family. He found work in the mines of British Columbia for the time being before settling in Brantford, Ontario in 1953. There he established a long career with Union Gas until his retirement in 1983. Vincenzo always found time to tend to his prize winning fruit and vegetable garden, and he had a love for WWE Wrestling that could only be surpassed by his love for Italian soccer, “Forza Italia”! Vincenzo will be remembered as a hard working man who always provided for his family, friends and also his community by assisting many fellow Italian families get settled when they arrived in Brantford. We will miss his many stories of days gone by. A special thank you to all of the staff at Charlotte Villa and St. Joseph’s Life Care, especially Dr. Hadley for all of their compassionate care and support. The family will receive friends at the TOLL FUNERAL HOME, 55 Charing Cross Street, Brantford on Monday, February 5, 2018 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial to be held at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 133 Murray Street, Brantford on Tuesday at 11 a.m. Interment to follow at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery.
