Obituary for Jeannie Van Dongen (Kroles)

Print
Dearly beloved wife, best friend and partner of Gerry for almost 65 years.
Jeannie lived her life to the fullest. After a courageous battle with cancer, she passed away peacefully surrounded by family at the age of 88 on January 26, 2018.
We will all be forever grateful for the loving care and gentle guidance received while residing at the Hankinson House.

Dear mother of Wendy (Les Kraska), Mark (Diane) and Craig (Fiona).
A favorite Oma to her grandchildren Jennifer, Jason (Kristine) Kraska and Corina, Briana (Gavin) Van Dongen
All whom share in her love of nature, animals and compassion for all people.

Jeannie and Gerry emigrated from Holland for a new life in Quebec. She was known as a caring and passionate person. She taught children how to swim, play soccer and to garden. Jeannie had the ultimate green thumb - every plant flourished with her nurturing.

After moving to Brantford, she volunteered as a swim instructor for special needs people at the YMCA & Gretzky Pool Centre for over 27 years, canvassed for the Canadian Cancer Society for over 30 years, walked the annual Hike for Hospice for the past 13 years and the Relay for Life.
Jeannie also shared her love of line dancing and yoga with a group of close friends. She enjoyed singing with the Brant Bella Dears for 40 years and the Dofasco Ladies Choir for the Christmas concerts over 15 years.

She will be remembered as having managed the Brantford Boy Scout Shop for over 16 years seeing many young scouts become wonderful leaders in the community.

After retirement she filled her spare time by becoming a charter Member of the Women’s Probus Club of Brantford, was an active member of the Arrowdale Seniors Mixed Golf League and became a Volunteer with the VON of Brantford.

Jeannie will be greatly missed by family and friends.

As per her request, cremation has taken place. A celebration of her life will be held at the Charing Cross Reception Suites adjacent to the TOLL FUNERAL HOME, 55 Charing Cross Street, Brantford on Saturday February 10, 2018 from 1 to 3 p.m. Memories will be shared at 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers donations in Jeannie’s memory may be made directly to the Hankinson Hospice House or the Brantford SPCA.
