Obituary for Diana Zacharski

Diana Zacharski
Peacefully at St. Joseph’s Lifecare Centre in Brantford on Sunday, January 7, 2018 in her 97th year. Beloved wife and partner of the late Marian Zacharski. Loving mother of Krys Croxall (Al), Adrian Zacharski (Maggie Haines) and David Zacharski (Lynda Bonella). Adored grandmother of Lindsay Croxall, Kristen Haines, Dan Zacharski, Nicholas Zacharski and Matthew Zacharski. Dear aunt to Lucy Kowalski (Arek). Diana was born in London, England in 1921. After WWII she met and married Marian Zacharski, a soldier in the Polish Army. They immigrated to Canada in 1957 where Diana worked at both Cockshutt’s and White Farm Equipment. Following retirement she spent her time babysitting grandchildren, and looking after her elderly mother while caring for her ailing husband through 26 operations. She followed a variety of personal interests such as photography, gardening, travelling in a camper trailer, disco dancing and boogie boarding in the surf at Lake Huron. She joined the Arthritis Bluebird Club aimed at fundraising and educating about autoimmune diseases, serving a term as president. In her seventies and eighties she wrote a memoir about the Zacharski family, toured Europe with her husband in a wheelchair and found the energy to sponsor family members from Poland as immigrants and visitors. Her exuberant personality and strong drive lead her to persevere in new adventures where others would have given up or never started at all. Her determination was balanced by her cheerful cooperative spirit and kindness. Asked about her advice for a good life she answered, “Be nice to everyone!” Above all she loved her family and devoted herself to her grateful children and grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff at St. Joseph’s Lifecare for their excellent support. Cremation has taken place. The family will welcome friends at the TOLL FUNERAL HOME, 55 Charing Cross Street, Brantford on Friday, January 19, 2018 from 6 -9 p.m. to celebrate Diana’s life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Diana may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Brant or a charity of your choice.
