Obituary for Norman R Walker

Norman R Walker
WALKER, Norman R
September 27th, 1923 – September 4th, 2017
Norm passed away after a short illness with his family present at Brantford General Hospital on September 4, 2017, 3 weeks shy of the age of 94. He was known as Norm to Josephine, his loving wife of 71 years, and Dad to Linda Louise (predeceased in 1947), Dawn Carol (predeceased in 2011), Denis Peters (predeceased 2016), David (Sandra), and JoAnn (Vic Henn). Poppa to his 7 adoring granddaughters and 10 loving great-grandchildren. Norm was born and raised in Hamilton and moved to Brantford to start his career with Bell Canada. Always a proud Canadian, Poppa enlisted in the army (signal corp.), served in Europe and has always been proud of his time in helping liberate Holland. After the war, he returned to Brantford and spent the rest of his working career with Bell Canada. The family travelled the province (Kitchener, Sudbury, Ottawa (twice) and Kingston) before he and Jo returned to Brantford when he retired after 43 years of service (1986). He was very active in retirement with years of involvement with the Bell Pioneers (President several times), the seeing eye dogs, the lawn bowling club, the seniors group, the euchre club, member of the Legion, and was a very active and long time member of St James Anglican church. He loved to travel with Jo and the family and has seen most of North America while towing their house trailer. Family was important to him and his legacy will be family. He will be missed by his family and friends. He lived by the belief that three simple words will get one into heaven. Thoughts, Words, and Deeds. Think good Thoughts, say good Words, and do good Deeds. He lived by those three words and we are comfortable in knowing Poppa is in Heaven. Thank-you to everyone on the 5th and 7th floor at Brantford General and a special thanks to the PSWs on the 5th. Each of you brought him comfort and pleasure as you were a part of his life. A celebration of Norm’s life will be held on Sunday, September 10, 2017 at the DENNIS TOLL FUNERAL HOME, 55 Charing Cross Street, Brantford, with visiting from 12 noon until the time of the service at 1 p.m. in the chapel. Cremation has taken place. If desired, donations can be made to Camp Trillium (www.camptrillium.com).
