Obituary for Alexandra "Orla" Derus

DERUS, Alexandra “Orla” – It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Orla, with her loving family by her side, at the Brantford General Hospital on Tuesday, May 9, 2017, in her 84thyear. Cherished, devoted wife of John for over 61 years. Loving mother of Ed, Rick (Wendy), Angie (Steve) Nemeth, Kathie Derus and Elizabeth (John) Nichols. Proud Bapci of Lauren and Johnny; Alexandra and Kelly; Brad and Mike; Sarah, Jordan and Kevin. Orla is survived by her brother Chester Klus; sisters-in-law Theresa Klus, Polly Klus, Jeanette Klus and Bernice Malecki, as well as many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her siblings Ben Klus, Lillian (John) Zwolak, John Klus, Mike Klus and sister-in-law Sophie Klus and brother-in-law Teo Malecki. Over 60 years ago, Orla and John, opened John Derus Service Centre and touched the lives of four generations of many customers and friends. Orla's unconditional compassion and kindness for everyone she met positively impacted so many people and her welcoming spirit will be sorely missed. Like the way she nurtured her garden, she was able to see the beauty and potential in all that had not yet blossomed, which gave others hope and strength. Family and friends will be received at the DENNIS TOLL FUNERAL HOME, 55 Charing Cross Street, Brantford on Monday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. with prayers to be recited at 8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, 235 Brant Ave, Brantford on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at 10 a.m. Interment to follow at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery. If desired donations, can be made to St. Joseph's Church. www.dennistoll.ca
