Passed away at his beloved home on Bay Lake in Bancroft, Ontario on March 14, 2017 lovingly held by his daughter Brenda. Glenn was born on February 9, 1933 (on the coldest night of the winter) on his family’s 100 acre farm at Wellman’s Corners in Rawdon Township (Hastings County) to George and Sarah Ann (Brownson). He was the third of their four boys (Lorne, Jim and Craig) and he also joined three older half sisters (Bernie, Ollie and Vera). At Teachers College in Peterborough in 1951, Glenn met Marilyn Parks and they married in 1957. They were happily married for 52 years until Marilyn’s death in 2009. Together they raised two children - Lynn who died in 1982 at the age of 24, and Brenda (who was blessed to spend the last 15 months of her Dad’s life with him on Bay Lake). Glenn was “Boppy” to two granddaughters, Nicole and Ryen, that he adored and took great pride in. Glenn retired at the end of 1987, ending an incredible 35 year career as an educator (Teacher, Principal, Master at Hamilton Teacher’s College, Inspector of Public Schools in Wentworth County and later North Hastings, Superintendent in Hastings County, and finally Director of Education in Brant County). Glenn earned his Doctor of Education degree in 1977 from the University of Toronto (OISE). Glenn was active in every community that he lived in through curling, church, and service organizations such as the Stirling Masonic Lodge, Brantford Probus, Brantford Rotary and Grand River Kiwanis. He also volunteered his time at Brantford General Hospital and other associations. Glenn wrote in 2013, “As I reflect on my life, I can scarcely believe the variety and quality of my career, my achievements, and of course, my loving family. The opportunities and blessings which I received were far beyond my fondest expectations. I was so very fortunate and will always be grateful to those who helped in any way to make it all possible. In looking back, I really have no regrets”. That is a life exceptionally lived! Glenn is survived by his daughter Brenda, granddaughters Nicole and Ryen, brother Craig, sister in law Gloria (Mike) Foxon, nieces and nephews (Anne (Jim) Lynd, June (Craig) Smith, Jim (Sue) Watson, Derek (Janice) Foxon, David (Cheryl) Foxon, and his great nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the DENNIS TOLL FUNERAL HOME, 55 Charing Cross Street, Brantford on Friday, March 24, 2017 from 6-8 pm. A celebration of Glenn’s life will be held in the chapel on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 2 pm. Memorial donations to The Trillium Gift of Life Network or the charity of your choice would be appreciated
