Obituary for Antoni "Toni" Zurek

The colourful life of Antoni Zurek, born in Olesznica, Poland on March 12, 1929 faded out on March 11, 2017 just entering his 88th year. Beloved husband of Judy (Jadwiga Boleslawa), Toni will be joining her in the stars as well as his brothers (Louie & Jan) and sister (Bronia). Sending him on his new journey are his daughters, Rose Presutti (Vince), Anny Fyreagle and Barb Zurek and his devoted grandchildren, Stephen, Christine and Celeste, and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews in Canada, Poland and beyond. During Antoni’s life, his smile and joyful character touched the lives of many. Toni was a captain in the Polish army. Following his brother to Canada in 1960, he joined Massey Ferguson as a machinist for 25 years. Toni was always involved with the community and a long standing member of the Polish Canadian community, including president of the Polish Alliance of Brantford, involved with committees at the credit union (in Brantford & Toronto), and a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. He received a Citizen Volunteer Award for 40 years of service. Toni earned his reputation for being kind and generous. He has received many awards of merit but his greatest joy was to make people smile. Even when diagnosed with Parkinsons he remained a sturdy factory worker with a political mind and a charming man. Laughter was his medicine right until the end. Deep thanks to Dr. Wells, Dr. Dost and Dr. Hadley, the wonderful team at St. Joseph’s Lifecare Centre, the caring medical staff and care workers that made his life and transition graceful and dignified. The family will receive friends at the DENNIS TOLL FUNERAL HOME, 55 Charing Cross Street, Brantford on Thursday, March 16, 2017 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Parish Prayers to be recited that evening at 8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, 235 Brant Ave, Brantford, on Friday at 10 a.m. Interment at St. Joseph’s Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at the Albion Street Polish Hall, 126 Albion Street, Brantford.
