Passed peacefully at the Brantford General Hospital with his family by his side on Saturday, February 4, 2017 in his 94th year. Survived by his wife Elinor (nee Plant), whom he loved deeply for 70 years. Walter will be missed by his children Tom (Joanne), Terry (Lori), Tim (Renate), Tammie (Frank), and Todd (Joanne), eleven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Pre-deceased by his father Walter (1925), mother Elsie (1950), daughter Susan (1952), and his siblings, Malcolm, Harold, Lawrence, Kelvin, Margaret, Hazel and Elsie. Walter was born October 15 1923 in Drumbo Ontario, but spent the rest of this life in Brantford. He was a proud veteran of World War 2, where he served with the Essex Scottish Regiment throughout Europe, driving a Bren Gun Carrier and performing mechanic duties. He was wounded four times during the battle at the Falaise Gap in France. Upon returning home, he worked as an auto mechanic and opened the Service Garage on Clarence Street in 1947 with his eldest brother Mac, where he enjoyed working for 46 years. Walter was an avid gardener, golfer and crafter, with needlepoint being his specialty. Walter was never one to turn down a cup of tea, dessert, or a good book. He loved music and classic films. He enjoyed attending the Thank-A-Vet Luncheon every year, and always attended the Cenotaph on Remembrance Day. Walter’s family would like to thank the staff of the BGH and Season’s for their excellent care with a special thanks to Jessie.
