Peacefully surrounded by her family at the Stedman Community Hospice on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 in her 79th year, after a brief illness. Loving wife of Ronald for 51 years. Beloved mother of Paula and Patrick (Kelley). Cherished grandma of Kristine (fiancé Chris) and Steven Purdy and Justin, Spencer and Emma Dietrich. Survived by her brother Patrick (Delores), sisters Rita, Teresa and Rosalie (Bob). Predeceased by brothers Thomas, Anthony and Ermanno and sisters Anna, Josephine and Florence. Sister-in-law of Mike (Hilda), John (Anne), Mary (Dave) and Phil (Lummy). She will be fondly remembered by her extended family including many nieces and nephews and her closest friend June. Elda worked at Masters Eggs and then Shoppers Drug Mart in West Brant for many years and also volunteered at St. Theresa’s and St. Gabriel’s School. Elda was one of the first female coaches for girls soccer in Brantford. She always had a warm smile and friendly word, and will be fondly remembered by everyone. Special thanks to the caring staff at Stedman Community Hospice (Hankinson House) and the VON. Friends and family will be received at the DENNIS TOLL FUNERAL HOME, 55 Charing Cross Street, Brantford on Sunday, October 16, 2016 from 7-9 p.m. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church, 9 Waverly Street, Brantford on Monday at 12 Noon with interment to follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, it is Elda’s request that donations be made to the Stedman Community Hospice.
