Obituary for
Doreen "Grace" Illidge
Mother of Alan (Gail), grandmother of Linda (Kevin) and Andrew. Step-grandmother of Denise (Lee) and Owen; great-grandmother of Jesse, Jacob, Josephine, Jada and Hayden. Predeceased by husband Arthur and son Dereck. Grace passed away peacefully after a short illness, May 27, 2016, in her 97th year. Known to everyone as Grace, she was born in Bristol, England; the third girl in a family of 13 children. A veteran of the Second World War, as a member of the A.T.S., Grace serviced armoured cars at the Royal Armoured Corps School where she met her husband of 65 years. Emigrating to Canada in 1956, Grace was employed as a nurse at the John Noble Home for 28 years. A lover of most sports, Grace played golf, bowled in a 10-pin league for many years and enjoyed fishing. She also loved to travel. A life-long knitter, she made woollen vests for a local charity until she was almost 90 years old. She was also a life member of the St. Pius Church 50/50 Club and a former member of Branch 90, Canadian Legion. Many thanks to the staff of Amber Lea Place, and the doctors and nurses of the Brantford General Hospital for the care they provided to Grace. The family will receive friends at the DENNIS TOLL FUNERAL HOME, 55 Charing Cross Street, Brantford on Thursday June 9, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the charity of choice would be appreciated.
