Peacefully, at the Brantford General Hospital on August 20, 2013, in her 80th year. Val leaves behind her children, Neil (Christa), Sue (Geoff), and Judy (Scott), and her grandchildren Steve, Ben, Brian, Matthew, and Lauren. She was predeceased by her husband, Larry, and her parents, Norman and Lorna Woodward of Birmingham, England. She is survived by her sister, Lorna Lancaster, of Studley, England. After moving with her young family to Brantford from England in 1968, Val became active in the community, volunteering with organizations such as the Canadian Mental Health Association and Christmas Baskets. The family wishes to thank the staff of the Cardiac Care Unit at BGH for their gentle and compassionate care, and Dr. Ross Male and his staff. The family is also grateful to Val’s neighbours Russ, Gary, and John for their willingness to lend a hand if she needed help. In accordance with her wishes, cremation has already taken place. The family will receive friends at the DENNIS TOLL FUNERAL HOME, 55 Charing Cross St. in Brantford, on Sunday, from 5 - 7 pm. A memorial service will take place in the chapel on Monday, August 26 at 11 am, followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or a charity of your choice, would be appreciated.
